MetroScape

Cities the world over are in a constant state of flux, relentlessly reshaping in pursuit of progress. Melbourne is no exception—its skyline dominated by contemporary architecture and expanding infrastructure. Yet, with this transformation comes disruption, a paradoxical space where creation and destruction coexist, leaving a trail of upheaval in its wake. Within these transitional sites of construction, I explore the ‘unfinished’—a space that for me, reveals far more than the completed structure. It exposes the unseen, the ephemeral, and the shifting nature of urban change. This project further developed through my research into early 20th-century modernist thought, particularly in the late 1930s—a time of global transformation not unlike today. It was a period when creative experimentation blurred the boundaries between photography and architecture, redefining spatial expression. MetroScape represents a re-imagining of the urban landscape, far removed from romanticised notions of the pastoral and the sublime. By challenging the architectural gaze, my work seeks to shift perceptions of the city, uncovering its layered, dynamic, and ever-evolving essence.
